Our belief, informed by the work of Jean Piaget and Erik Erikson, is that children develop through predictable stages at their own individual rate of progress. Our curriculum emphasizes learning through direct experience. We follow a daily routine that provides the children with a combination of indoor and outdoor play, free choice activities and teacher-directed activities, small and large group experience, as well as rest and meal times. Each day provides the children with opportunities to express themselves in an art activity, to act out feelings in dramatic play, to discover attributes such as size, number, shape using the manipulative materials, to use fine motor and gross motor skills, and to have sensory experience with materials such as sand, mud and water, or gardening. They engage in social relationships with peers and adults where language is promoted. Throughout these experiences, the teachers are facilitating children's ability to share, to wait a turn, to complete tasks, to maintain an attention span appropriate to their ages, and most importantly, to be curious, enjoy learning and develop and sustain friendships. |
